Ginger is my current obsession. I post quite a bit about it on Instastories and have gotten a lot of questions on why I take it, so here ya go! I look for ginger in meals, juices, drinks, everything! It has kind of replaced my apple cider vinegar addiction - the best part is that it does pretty much the same thing and it doesn't have the acidic burn that ACV has to it. No, no. I'm not suggesting you start frequenting all the Asian restaurants in you area, so that you can scarf down the bit of ginger they give you, but I am suggestion you bring it in where it works for you. So first off, what does it do / why is it beneficial?

  • Wards off nausea

  • Decreases inflammation in the body

  • Lowers blood sugars and decreases risk of heart disease

  • Helps fight infections

  • Aids digestion

  • Decreases risk of Cancer

  • Increases brain function and decreases risk of Alzheimer's Disease

  • Jumpstarts metabolism

  • Rejuvinates skin due to antioxidants

  • Clears sinuses

I obviously love all of the benefits, but my favorite would be the last one - clears sinuses! Anytime my throat starts to get scratchy or my nose gets stuffy, I'm like GIVE ME THE GINGER. It immediately helps with my breathing and is a little boost to make it through the rest of the day, or at least until I can take a nap! 

Which brings me to my next point... what's my favorite way to take it?! I've never really been a shot taker, but I am a huge fan of ginger shots! Nick will usually make them for me, but you can also go to your local juice store and just ask! It's a pretty normal request. If you want to make your own, we usually make them with

  • 2-3 inches of fresh ginger (peeled)

  • 1 lemon (peeled)

  • cayenne for sprinkling on top

Tip 1: Be sure to buy organic when cold press juicing.

TIP 2: Nick likes to shove the ginger inside of the lemon to yield the most amount of juice possible.

I will say... it isn't really time consuming to make, but cleaning the juicer takes a little while. Buuuuut in the end, it is #worthit. Other ways you can enjoy ginger are

  • shaving some onto your protein or rice

  • blending it in a smoothie

  • boiling it into water to create ginger water

  • putting it in your cocktail

There's also supplements, but I think the fresh produce works best, and I also really love the flavor. I fully think this helps prevent sinus infections for me personally (I think the same thing about ACV) and have seen awesome results by eating ginger regularly. Do y'all eat ginger? Or use anything else that helps with similar issues? Something that is in the same family as ginger is turmeric and I will be posting about that soon. Stay tuned!
