As many of you know, I am currently training for my first official half marathon- the Big D Marathon, held in Dallas, Texas. (As of yesterday, I hit the halfway point in my training!) Besides sticking to the training plan, another crucial part, is eating right.
I graduated from college in December 2012 and since then my eating habits have drastically changed for the better. I always ate all 3 meals and even cooked, but I was living the college lifestyle and ate fast food all the time. I think my 3 worst offenders were Five Guys, Whataburger, and Cane's. It wasn't unusual for me to have all 3 of those foods in one week.
Fast forward to 2015 and my body often rejects super fatty and greasy foods. The last time I tried to have Cane's was last spring and I felt horrible the next day. It felt like I was running with a rock in my belly. I recently had Pappadeaux fried chicken fingers and thought I was going to croak the next day. My body felt it and so did my workout.
I'm a huge fan of flavor and am not going to eat something if it doesn't taste good. Guess what? You don't have to sacrifice taste for health! I stumbled upon Inspiralized almost a year ago and got my first spiralizer in December. I've been hooked ever since!
I call this a fashion blog, and tend to focus on personal style and trends, so you might be wondering why on earth I'm talking about food...well, here's why:
1) Fitness is trendy. I don't know if you've noticed, but it is cool to be fit. From wearable technology that doesn't look the part, to the ability to wear yoga pants out and not be scorned. (Well, most people don't frown upon it). Whatever your stance on the issue, you can't deny that counting your steps and looking cute doing it, is in style.
2) Aesthetics are important. Gone are the days of browns and whites on a plate. One tip to eat healthier is to have more hues in your diet. Colors are key for food presentation and with all the colors that fresh fruits and veggies come in, you are bound to be able to make it look and taste good. I like to think of it as visual merchandising for my plate (and tummy).
This particular recipe was awesome! Find it here. What drew me to it was the use of chia seeds. They're kind of weird and make me want to sing the chia pet song (yes, they're the same as the fake hair you grew out of ceramics), but they're so good for you and are nicknamed 'The Runner's Food'.
If you're trying to eat healthy or just want to try something new, you've got to check out Inspiralized. Her recipes are awesome and she teaches you how to spiralize each type of food. This recipe is probably my FAVORITE of hers. Another good site, especially if you're a vegetarian, is Twirly Bites.
Do y'all have any health conscious sites or recipes that you like, that don't' sacrifice flavor?
